Tom has strategic planning expertise in creating and managing university long-range planning processes; as an independent consultant he leads institutions to develop strategic thinking, planning and reporting structures for goal setting and achievement of measurable objectives for success. He is an innovative problem solver.
He is a visionary manager, professional consultant, proven planner and implementer, team builder, effective at motivating staff to accomplish tasks and achieve desired results. A former corporate training executive, he is a national conference presenter, and has developed program case and planning documents, operational policy/ procedure manuals, handbooks and publications.
He a nationally certified grants administrator specializing in US Department of Education Title III grants to strengthen historically black colleges and universities. His leadership saw ten consecutive years of funding increases, representing growth of 300% over the time period, bringing in $3.0 million annually in program development funding. To meet accrediting and other reporting requirements, he developed and instituted reporting/compliance processes and structure for grant-funded activities with training and support for faculty and administrative personnel.
Tom brings innovative ideas for community partnerships in support of institutional activities including corporate fund raising, alumni development and community outreach. As an independent consultant, Tom has represented clients in sensitive community relations initiatives; conducted market research, media positioning and served as political advisor.
